Portable power stations have become more popular than ever; they are useful not only for campers but also for people who are facing the risk of power outage due to severe weather like high winds, heavy rain, ice storms, or wildfires. I received the GRECELL T-1000 for testing and it has caught my eye as a budget-friendly yet capable option. At this time, you can get the 999Wh power station from Amazon for as low as $399 (or less than 40¢/Wh).

The GRECELL T-1000 is built for people who need reliable power on the go. I’m very impressed with its design. The build feels solid with rubber bumpers on all 8 corners to protect from drops. The built-in handle is extremely useful so that I can carry the power station around easily; moreover, the handle can be folded flat, so the station doesn’t look as bulky as other portable stations.

It’s quiet too as I could barely hear a hum unless I’m right next to it in a silent room. The flashlight came in handy and I can use it without turning on the power station. There is an SOS light just in case you need it in your camping trips.

This power station packs a 999Wh lithium-ion battery and a 1,000W pure sine wave inverter, which can surge to 2,000W. There are a wide variety of output options, including 2 AC outlets, 3 USB-A and a USB-C PD port, DC outputs, a car socket, and even a wireless charging pad on top. Unfortunately, the wireless charging pad is not really useful for me as it couldn’t charge my iPhone in a case and even when I remove the case, the charging speed is disappointing at just around 10W. To recharge the power station, you can plug it into a wall outlet, hook up to solar panels, or use your car’s 12V socket.

Performance

In practice, the T-1000 handles low to medium power easily. I’ve used it to power my workstation including a laptop and a 27-inch monitor, run a small fan, and the battery could easily last 7-8 hours. This is a decent backup during blackout as you will be able to keep your essentials running.

If you plan to use it for camping, the GRECELL can keep your lights on, phones charged, and even running a portable fridge for a few hours. However, you won’t be able to run more demanding appliances like water boiler or electric grill. The good thing is that you can pair it with portable solar panels for off-grid use.

Solar charging during the day worked well for me although it took longer than expected (about 2 days with a 100W panel under good sunlight). It’s not flawless, but it gets the job done.

A small issue with the power station is that the power consumption readings on the display seem to be inaccurate sometimes. When I recharge my phone using the AC port, the reading shows 0W even though it is charging at 27W according to my phone. This seems to be a common issue with some low-budget power stations.

Conclusion

The Good

  • Portable Design: At under 18 lbs with a handle.
  • Affordable Price: It’s priced well below more popular brands.
  • Versatility: With many ports to charge multiple devices at once.
  • Charging Options: Solar, AC, or car charging.

The Not-So-Great

  • Display Issue: The LCD screen sometimes shows battery level and power usage inaccurately.
  • Power Limits: It’s rated for 1000W, not built for big loads.

The GRECELL T-1000 might not be the most powerful or polished option out there, but it is solid for the price. If you’re looking for an affordable, no-frills power station, it is totally worth a shot.
